SUMMARY:Research Skills Seminar: Understanding Sample Size Calculations
DESCRIPTION:The WA Department of Health\, Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and the WA Health Translation Network are proud to present the 2016 Research Skills Seminar Series (RSSS) aimed at advancing the skill set of health professionals\, research students\, their supervisors and foe support staff. \nThe monthly seminars  are held at Princess Margaret Hospital\, usually on a Friday from 12.30 – 1.30pm\, and attendance via videolink is available. \nSeminar 4 March (12:30 – 1:30pm) \n‘Understanding Sample Size Calculations’ \nThe seminar provides an overview of sample size calculation and demonstrates how to use the free “PS” software to perform simple sample size calculations for \n\nCase-Control Studies\nCohort studies\nComparator studies\nSurvial Studies\n\nThe seminar also reviews sample size issues related to clinical trials and assists participants to identify situations where the best course of action is to consult a statistician. \nPrinted handouts and ‘Additional Reading- resources will be provided at the seminar. \n  \nPresenter: Dr Julie Marsh \n \nJulie is an experienced statistical consultant who has worked in the Pharmaceutical industry for many years before returning to academia. \nShe teaches statistics at UWA and is a Senior Research Fellow at the Telethon Kids Institute. \n  \nfor those who were unable to attend the seminar on the day\, a video recording is available online for a limited time. \nWe ask of those who attended the seminar or viewed it online\, to provide a 2-minute online feedback – this will help us gauge the success of the seminar and assist with continous improvement.
