DESCRIPTION:1st PRESENTATION (at 12noon): \nTitle: “Improving the Consenting Process: An Audit of Coronary Procedures”\nThis presentation will provide an overview of a small audit that was conducted by two of our SJG junior medical officers and how they went about translating the results of their study to practical improvements in the consenting process for coronary procedures within SJGHC. \nPresenters: Dr Stuart Paterson\, Anaesthetics Registrar\, Bunbury Regional Hospital\nDr Emily Clarke\, Medical Registrar\, RPH \n2nd PRESENTATION (at 1.00pm): \nTitle: “How to design your studies to improve the calibre of health research and the tools designed to help you”\nThis educational session aims to provide researchers with the information and tools required to design studies which have high methodological quality. Unfortunately in health research we see a lot of effort go into recruiting for trials\, gathering data and preparing a manuscript only to see it rejected when submitted for publication due to methodological flaws. Subsequently\, this results in poor translation of knowledge and criticism of results by the scientific community. This session will cover the tools which can assist researchers when developing the following types of research; diagnostic/ prognostic studies\, case reports/ series\, observations studies\, randomised studies and systematic reviews. \nPresenter: Mr Myles Murphy\nMyles is an APA titled Sports Physiotherapist who works full-time at the Western Australian Cricket Association and consults part-time at SportsMed Subiaco. Myles has previously worked as the Head Physiotherapist for the Peel Thunder Football Club\, including the 2016 and 2017 premiership seasons\, and with the inaugural Fremantle Football Club AFLW team. Myles acts as a tendon imaging consultant for Envision Medical Imaging in regards to their ultrasound tissue characterisation imaging. Myles is currently a member of the SJGHC Scientific Review Sub-Committee (SRC)\, a state council member for the WA Branch of Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) and also sits on the scientific committee for the 2018 Sports Medicine Australia National Conference. Myles is a sessional staff member and PhD Candidate with the School of Physiotherapy at The University of Notre Dame Australia. Myles acts as a peer reviewer for multiple scientific journals which publish within sports medicine and sports rehabilitation. Myles research interests include lower limb tendinopathy\, sports-related concussion (SRC) and femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIs). \nPlease see the attached flyer for 2018 Research and Ethics Education Program
