SUMMARY:RSSS 2018 - Ethics for Research: Practical ethical considerations: Obstacle or Powerful Tool
DESCRIPTION:  \nPresenter: Professor Nik Zeps \nEthics in research is often perceived as a hurdle to be struggled over\, but it doesn’t have to be an obstacle in your research. \nThis seminar will show how ethics can be embraced by researchers as a powerful tool to enhance study design and conduct. It will empower you as a researchers to think in ethical terms without seeing yourself as a “bio-ethicist”. \nClick here to register online

SUMMARY:ACTA STInG Writing Clinical Trial Simulators Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The use of simulation is growing in the design of clinical trial designs as an augmentation of\, or replacement for\, sample size calculations. Usually this is in order to be able to: estimate operating characteristics of the planned trial other than simply power\, to be able to estimate actual type-1 error and power taking into account factors such as the effect of dropouts\, and to be able to use trial designs that are too complex for sample size calculation such as adaptive designs. This course will introduce statisticians to the concepts\, software\, and engineering skills required to write and use a trial simulator. It is intended for statisticians with some programming experience (e.g. R\, SAS)\, and introduce them to design considerations of writing a simulator and testing whether the simulator is correct. The course will teach how to use simulations to engineer and guide design decisions\, including the importance of simulating single example trials and summarizing key operating characteristics across many simulations.  It will also focus on effective communication strategies for presenting simulation results to clinical colleagues. \nAlthough not necessary\, it would be beneficial for delegates to bring a laptop with R installed so that they can try to run a simple simulator. \nBy the end of this course\, participants should be able to: \n• Understand what clinical trial simulation is and the vital role it plays in the development of a clinical trial design \n• Have the foundational tools to start writing and testing clinical trial simulators \n• Appreciate the value of reviewing individual simulated trials \n• Understand how to present operating characteristics summarized across many simulated trials \nThe course will be presented by Dr Ben Saville and Dr Todd Graves. \nMorning tea provided. \nVenue:\nRoom 1.036\, Level 1 HELP\, Royal Children’s Hospital\, Parkville\, VIC\, 3052 \nCost:\nStandard $100\, ACTA Member $80\, Students $60 \nMore information on this workshop can be found here. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:ACTA STInG Adaptive Trials Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The aim of this workshop is to bring together statisticians and clinicians with an interest in adaptive clinical trial designs to share knowledge and information about current research in adaptive designs and their application. The morning will provide an introduction to adaptive designs\, ranging from traditional frequentist to innovative platform trials\, including the statistical issues and the challenges of utilising such designs. In the afternoon four researchers who have experience in running adaptive trials will present examples of their trials. The day will include plenty of time for discussion\, ending with a panel discussion about “Where to from here?” \nMorning tea\, lunch and afternoon tea provided. \nWhen: Thursday 22nd March 2018\, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm \nWhere: Ella Lathan Theatre\, Ground Floor\, Royal Children’s Hospital\, Parkville\, VIC\, 3052 \nTickets: Standard $150\, ACTA Member $120\, Students $80 \nMore information on this workshop can be found here \nRegister here
