DESCRIPTION:WAHTN will host a talk and short Q and A on the newly established Australian National Phenome Centre (ANPC). The talk titled\, Clinical and population phenomic approaches to augment clinical actionability and preventive medicine strategies\, will be presented by Professor Jeremy Nicholson (Director of the Australian National Phenome Centre\, Pro Vice Chancellor for Health Science and Director of the Health Futures Institute at Murdoch University) and colleagues. \nThe establishment of the ANPC is a very exciting and significant development for WA research\, led by Murdoch University. Through the use of sophisticated biological analysis technology\, the ANPC will enable researchers to examine the complex interaction and influence of genes\, the environment and lifestyle on human and animal health. SUMMARY:Telethon Kids Innovation Forum: Target validation in the drug discovery process
DESCRIPTION:This talk is a unique opportunity to hear from Professor Roberto Solari about the process of commercial drug discovery. It will cover the basic techniques of target discovery and validation and how new technologies have influenced productivity in Pharma. \nRoberto Solari is a research biologist and is a Visiting Professor at the National Heart and Lung Institute\, Imperial College London and also acts as an advisor to Brandon Capital Partners. Prior to this Roberto was Vice President in GSK’s Respiratory Therapy Area based in Stevenage in the UK where his role covered drug discovery from target identification through to proof of concept studies in man. Roberto joined Glaxo in 1986 after two post-docs at the Institut de Biochimie\, Universite de Lausanne and at Liverpool University. Roberto has a BSc and PhD in Physiology and Cell Biology from Nottingham University. He is currently CEO of a new spinout company from Imperial College and the Francis Crick Institute called Myricx Pharma. \nA light lunch will be provided from 11.45am.
