World-renowned psychiatrist appointed as new Executive Director at WAHTN

The Western Australian Health Translation Network (WAHTN) is pleased to welcome our new Executive Director, Professor Ian Paul Everall, who started with us on Monday the 25th of July 2022.

As a distinguished psychiatrist, Professor Everall has been at the forefront of research into cellular, molecular and genetic changes in the brain in major psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, and the effects of HIV on the brain for more than thirty years. In 2014, he was awarded a Doctor of Science by the University of Melbourne for his thesis in ‘Investigations into the molecular and cellular neuropathology of psychiatric disorders’.

Professor Everall brings decades of experience in executive management, which has been gained through various leadership positions, including the Director of the Psychosis Program of the Commonwealth-funded Collaborative Research Centre for Mental Health at the University of Melbourne, the Principal Investigator of the Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship in NeuroAIDS at the University of California San Diego, and the Executive Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London. Professor Everall has been actively involved in many international collaborations and has been working with senior health administrators, researchers and clinicians across America, Australia and the UK over thirty years. We are looking forward to WAHTN’s new journey under Professor Everall’s great leadership. Watch the video below for a brief introduction of our new Executive Director, Professor Ian Everall.
