Western Australia has an enviable track record in research discoveries, which has translated into ground-breaking improvements in patient care and important changes in health policy. This has been recognised by Nobel Prizes, Australian of the Year Awards, international prizes and fellowships and by WA hosting national collaborative health research infrastructure.

The Western Australian Health Translation Network (WAHTN) builds on these strengths, providing additional leadership in innovative health research at international levels of excellence and enabling the ability of researchers and clinicians to work across multiple sites.

A unique feature of translational health research in WA is our international leadership in data linkage and highly-curated clinical cohorts with genomic and biobank data. This strategically positions WAHTN researchers to discover and rapidly test new diagnostic strategies and treatments, speed up the translation of research findings into clinical practice and to monitor their population-wide and long-term impact on improved health.
